Welcome to my new blog! It’s all about creating your children’s book–everything from latest trends to nuts and bolts. I started writing for children several years ago, read all I could find through print, Internet resources and networking. I dove into everything at once as author, illustrator and publisher. What was I thinking?
Looking back, I wish I’d done just about all of it differently. I’m a professional medical writer, with many publications in the health care sciences. Making the transition to writing for children was more challenging than preparing a detailed manuscript about breakthroughs in cancer research.
Recently, I was interviewed for a magazine feature article about how I started writing children’s books. Take a look: Holmdel’s Fairy Tale Adventurer: http://digital.ipcprintservices.com/publication/?i=67494. As I recounted my experiences, a story unfolded from bits of memories and seemingly unrelated events. Now I realize it is all raw material, ready for honing. I just had to tap into fragments to make them whole.
In writing children’s books, I’ve made LOTS of mistakes but also accomplished more than I ever expected. My first book, Princess Secrets, was published in 2008. My second book, Sunbelievable, will be released this fall.
I’ll be posting articles with details and how-to’s about writing, illustrating and publishing. Of course, I’ll share my mistakes and invite you to share your own experiences.
I hope you’ll visit often and join me as the journey continues.
